New Wanapum Heritage Center Nears Completion

Dedication, single mindedness of purpose and the sharing of a common vision have lead to a unique structure rising on the banks of the Columbia overlooking a place of special significance.  

Unique because within that structure lies the past, present and future of the Wanapum.

On October 15, 2015 the New Wanapum Heritage Center will open its doors to the public for the first time. 

It is with very mixed feelings that we say goodbye to a project that has taken us over 12 years to complete.  

Mixed feelings because we have been immersed in a community that has taught us so much and with whom we have walked together to create something that speaks to hearts, hands and minds.

It has been a long and sometimes tough road, studded with moments of joy, delight, somber reflections, sadness, insight and very hard work.

The architect and designer have joined with the Wanapum and the Grant County Public Utility District to reveal through their voices;

their perspective of the world,

their traditions,

their beliefs

and their hopes for the future

for themselves and for us.
