Short-Listed For Poarch Creek!

We were excited to get the news that we were short-listed for the Poarch Creek Cultural Center!  The challenge was to come up with four design options in less than two weeks.  That alone wouldn't be too hard, but because of the Canada Day and the US Independence Day holidays, Fed-Ex couldn't guarantee our delivery by the due date unless we sent it on June 30th!  Great challenge!  How'd we do it?

We got Yvette doing renderings...

Michael doing graphic design, while Ashley also did graphic design and fabricated the "package"...

Amy worked through design options with JJ and oversaw the coordination of the package...

While Tom and Bianca wrote, Irma did additional graphic design and Andy created the digital model...

...we got it done with a few minutes to spare before our favorite Fed-Ex guy came and picked up our package!  CONGRATULATIONS TEAM!  No matter what the result of the review, you were all exceptional!

Seattle Simple. Daytripper... Meetings with Mithun...

Bianca and Michael head down to Seattle for the day for architectural coordination meetings with Mithun Architects and the Wanapum Team...

Kenmore Air makes it easy... Bianca in co-pilot seat

...and Michael disembarking from the sea plane.

Coordination of space and schedule, Wanapum needs and conservation requirements...  after all, architects, designers and yes, even curators, will come and go, but we must protect the collection for generations to come.  A good day of making sure we're all on the same page.

Design Internship Blossoms...

The University of Victoria's Cultural Resource Management Program Director Joy Davis visited our design studio for our Internship program review.  She was very impressed by Irma's progress and offered to promote our art show: Art Beyond Beauty Hope in the 21st Century in "The Ring"—the University of Victoria's newspaper.

The exhibition catalogue is almost complete and will be on sale for CAN$18.00 to help cover some of the costs of the show.  If you are interested in placing an order please give us a call. (250) 389-1677

Mentoring... Thinking Outside the Box...

Jean Jacques André continues to mentor young designers and develop our team's skills.  He is teaching how to use space dramatically and efficiently, create perspective renderings, and always, always, think outside the box!

Amy and JJ enjoy a creative session today.

Continuance of Traditions...

The exhibit design process for the Wanapum Heritage Center continues...

Bianca, Angela Buck and Angela Neller meet to review graphic panels layouts, artifacts and text.

Nick gives an overview on video approach.  The beginning of training tribal members to use video so they will be able to create their own media productions in the future.

Getting ready for Treaty Day at White Swan

We had the wonderful experience of filming two tipis being set up.  Beautiful to see how the process was shared and taught to the younger ones.  Truly a family experience.  I'm sure tomorrow's powwow will be super!

Community Involvement Grows...

As Nick Johnson and Bianca Message continue the on-site filming at Wanapum Village we are excited to see the community involvement grow.  It is our goal that every member of the community will participate in developing the permanent exhibits for the new Wanapum Heritage Center.  Special thanks to Rex Buck III for all his hard work coordinating folks for the interviews.  As the people share their stories personal ownership in the new facility blossoms.  It is truly our privilege to be part of this exciting project and witness the momentum building.
