Featured Artist: Matt Brouwer

You may remember Matt Brouwer, the young photographer from Evenstar Photography who did the photography for Art Beyond Beauty, our internship project last year. This Spring he set himself a 30 day challenge to photograph an aspect of Nursery Hill Park each day for 30 days.  Matt writes:

Here is a little window into the idea behind the book :

"If you're anything like me - when you're lucky enough to travel -everything seems brand new and exciting. It looks different, sounds different, smells different. It's easy to be inspired and see the beauty all around you.
But are all the places we travel to really more beautiful and inspiring than closer to home? Perhaps, but what about the scores of people who come to this part of the world to get refreshed and inspired?
Upon reflection, it seems more likely that many of us have become jaded, and simply don't take the time to stop and find the beauty that's out there waiting for us in our everyday lives. Out of this realization came the 30 Day Challenge.
The idea was simple. Go to the same little park in my neighbourhood, every day for thirty days and try to produce something original and fantastic every time.
Creativity was limited to what could be accomplished in the camera. No postproduction on the computer was allowed.
In the spring of 2011, I set out, every day, rain or shine for thirty days. Along the way I learned a lot about slowing down, enjoying life, and seeing the beauty that's all around us"
